Cheyenne’s alternative high school, Triumph, has seen several changes in personnel to begin the ’23-’24 school year. Several veteran teachers who taught at Triumph for many years moved on to other careers outside of education or new paths within the field at other schools in the district.
In addition to new personnel, some new leadership and programs are beginning. Among these programs, a notable one is the addition of an online school newspaper. The “Spartan Mirror” is now Triumph’s student newspaper, and students will upload articles often to practice practical literacy and share some happenings at the school. The program is very small right now, but the new advisor, Scott Hume, hopes to grow the program in the months and years to come making it a viable, real source for news and journalism. At the time this newspaper first went live, there were only two student journalists who were learning how to write news stories and will begin uploading articles as soon as possible. These two students, Seth Chafin and Donny Hunter, are also working on creating the yearbook, so they have a lot on their plate.
Triumph High School runs on a quarter system, so more students should be joining the ranks of the publications department and stories will be posted with more frequency and quality as they learn how to be journalists. Keep checking back to see what is happening at Triumph.
