The last two weeks of October were a busy time for Triumph students. Many students participated in the trades fair and field trips while others hustled to finish classwork for the upcoming end of the quarter. A spirit week encouraged students to dress up for their school and participate in costume contests. Amongst all this excitement, the Triumph Library Staff hosted a spine-chilling and exciting event of their own to get the school into the spirit of Halloween.
The Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt hosted by the Triumph High School Library brought in many students, teachers, and staff. It all began at a crime scene where an innocent book had been murdered. Hidden around the library were clues to solve the case, revealing the murderer to be a famous author of many books in the library. Students worked together to move from clue to clue to unmask the murderer.
Classes that decided to take on this demanding yet rewarding task were advisements taught by Hannah Simon, Brett Tyrrell, Michael Hendrix, Danielle Michael, Vonna Webb, Ashlee Peyton, and Rebecca Murray. Two special Spartan Friday groups solved the mystery as well. Three individual staff members, Justin Earnshaw, Amber Martens, and Jorge Laos also cracked the murderous case.
Participants were pushed to collaborate and use library skills to solve each clue. They had to research different quotes, unscramble words, locate books by Dewey Decimal, and create number combinations. When interviewed about his experience at the Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt, Triumph Student, Matt Ewing said, “It was fun, but challenging at times to figure it out.” Ewing’s class was the first to solve the mystery.
Overall, the Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt was a successful library program at Triumph High School this Halloween Season. Keep your eyes peeled from more fun library events this holiday season like the annual ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas schoolwide story time which will take place right before winter break.
