On Thursday, May 29, at Storey Gymnasium 33 students took their final steps as Triumph Spartans. Principal Troy Lake, who was captaining his last graduation ceremony as he is retiring, historically gives each class a moniker that attempts to sum up the group as a whole, and he decided that “last-minute” was rather apt for this group. Indeed, some of the graduates had finished the requirements for graduation mere hours before the ceremony. Superintendent Dr. Stephen Newton encouraged the students to continue to serve in a positive manner and wished the students the best in their future endeavors. In a creative twist, the student speaker, Aubrey Roberts, and the faculty speaker, Ashlee Peyton, tag-teamed their speeches in an enlightening juxtaposition of the perspectives on school and the journey as seen by graduates and by teachers who guide them along the way. Triumph High School is known for extremely effective and positive relationships between the students and the teachers, so this combined speech was an apt metaphor for the Triumph way as a whole.
